Jaroslav Paur

In the context of the extremely powerful generation of young artists entering the art scene during the 1940s Jaroslav Paur’s painting work (1918-1987) is one of the not yet well-known art references, which, however, does not lack both the qualitative level of the individual creative stages and the uniqueness of the artistic expression. The aim of the exhibition is to present the painter’s work in its entirety and its multilayer character, which is characteristic of the development of the actual content component in the internally closed thematic cycles. In the initial phase, the author confronted with the expressive tendencies of the war years, when he approached artificially the programmatic thinking of members of the group Seven in October or the civilian expression of artists from the group 42. During the 1950s, Paur worked on his own theme of the city, which he consistently developed In the sixties and seventies. In them he focused on the expression and content values of painting and partly also developed the current elements of abstract informal aesthetics. An important part of his compositions is a kind of mysterious atmosphere of monumentally conceived abstract urban landscapes, which in some cases evoke some sort of cosmic structure. Paur’s painting work is an extraordinarily authentic testimony of the relationship between man and urban agglomeration, in which, in addition to the lyrical poetic tendencies, the urgent existential expression is very strongly contained.
